Health and Physical Education at our school helps students grow strong, confident, and healthy. Guided by the New Zealand Curriculum, students develop knowledge and skills that support physical wellbeing, teamwork, and positive relationships.
Lessons include a mix of movement, discussion, and practical activities, giving students the chance to be active, build skills, and have fun. Learning focuses on both personal health and physical development, helping students make healthy choices and take care of themselves and others.
Sporting Opportunities
Our students have access to a wide range of sports and physical activities, both during and outside school hours. Opportunities include:
• Inter-school competitions in sports such as netball, rugby, soccer, and athletics
• House sports and school tournaments
• After-school sports clubs and activities
• Special events like cross-country, swimming, and team challenges
These experiences help students develop teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, while also giving them the chance to explore new interests and represent the school in the wider community.
What this means for your child
• Developing physical skills and confidence through movement and games
• Learning about wellbeing, healthy choices, and safety
• Building teamwork, cooperation, and respect for others
• Enjoying a variety of active and engaging experiences
Health and PE at our school supports students to live active, healthy lives, both now and in the future.
Footnotes
In health and physical education, the use of the word hauora is based on Mason Durie’s Te Whare Tapa Whā model (Durie, 1994). Hauora and well-being, though not synonyms, share much common ground.
Taha wairua relates to spiritual well-being; taha hinengaro to mental and emotional well-being; taha tinana to physical well-being; and taha whānau to social well-being.
